Ending/Beginning
How are you? (3/3)
Hi! Wanna share my lock screen?
I titled my last post with gratitude but didn’t really write about it. But let me find the happinesses of the week, because they’re an actual practice in gratitude:
My stomach issues slowly healing. I’ve been eating really boring food for weeks and it’s paying off. Lately I’m also reading a lot about eating in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and it’s the only system that has ever not recommended oats to me (which don’t work for me as advertised everywhere else), and is all about warm food (yes please), so I’ve been trying some recommendations and they seem to help! Will get a proper consultation asap.
My therapist. Actually having a therapist!
My third prototype for a dress finally making sense. I’ll show you soon. The cat helping with sewing is also cute. She loves sitting down on the fabric when I’m trying to straighten it out on the floor to draw on it. Or when I’m cutting it and it really shouldn’t be moved. Or when I’m sewing it. I’ll take this over cutting bias tape from satin though. Forking never again please.
Also, someone cute sent me a selfie in front of many palm trees. I feel appreciated.
Here’s what I’ve been reading and finding lately:
A book called Less is More, by Jason Hickel. It details the history of capitalism, including the philosophical, spiritual and societal changes needed for it to really take a hold. It’s scary, and eye-opening. I think more people should read this book.
The below TikTok on (an aspect of) African Time. You don’t understand the reverence I have for African Time, and the joy it brings me.
I just discovered the website of Lagos Fashion Week which is happening now and I’m going to have to download TikTok again to catch some of it. Found it through This Week in Africa which is a weekly collection of articles, writing, so so much info. I try to follow at least one of the links every week, along with catching up on The Continent.
Thank you for reading me, I hope I’ve given you something interesting this month and to see you soon!
Leonie
